Short Courses for Welsh Communication Skills

Spring:     7 - 11 April 2008
Summer:  9 - 13 June 2008

Price: £256 for members of the European Union. The above fee is the full fee. Automatic bursaries are available for anyone who is self-financing. This will reduce the actual cost to £110.

The course will be held in the University of Wales, Lampeter. Welsh has been taught at the university since 1822 and we have been judged to do it rather well. The Welsh Department is the winner of the Partnership Trust European Language Award awarded annually to teachers in Higher Education who have achieved success in innovation, course design, content and structure. The award is made to institutions judged to raise the communication skills of students.

The college is located in the heart of Welsh-speaking Wales providing Welsh learners with ample opportunity to practice their Welsh!

Who will be teaching?

All the teaching will be done by experienced University language teachers who specialise in Welsh as a second language.

Who is this course for?

It is designed for those who need to learn to speak the language over a short period of time. Study is demanding but enjoyable. Attention will be given to basic writing skills. Support and computer room facilities will be available from 9:00a.m. to 10:00p.m. University library facilities will also be available during normal opening hours for study purposes.

What levels are available?

  • Level 1 - Beginners with no previous knowledge of the language
  • Level 2 - Intermediate. For learners with approximately 100 hours of formal tuition or who are following the on-line course 'Camu at y Gymraeg (Part 1)'
  • Level 3 - Advanced / Uwch. I'r rhai sydd wedi derbyn tua 200 o oriau cyswllt, neu sy'n dilyn y cwrs 'Camu Pellach' ar y We.

What level will I have reached by the end of the course?

The committed student who had no previous knowledge of the language should be able to hold a basic conversation with a sympathetic first-language speaker. The course will also provide the more experienced learner with an ideal springboard to complete fluency.
